Carlos Fer is a multidisciplinary artist and curator from Pontevedra in Spain. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Creation and Research in Contemporary Art at the University of Vigo.

His project for the Novos Valores residency is titled Exercises for Hanging a Painting. It stems from Carlos Fer’s recent obsession with exploring how a painting is positioned and how this completely alters what it communicates, how the viewer perceives it, and the way it relates to itself and to the space. His artistic proposal is based on reinterpreting the act of hanging a painting on the wall, turning it into an impossible action. Through this, Carlos Fer will build upon the legacy of Walter Leblanc, exploring his work and contributions to Anti-Peinture.

The Novos Valores artist residency program was launched by the Provincial Council of Pontevedra in collaboration with the Matadero Madrid Contemporary Creation Center and the Walter & Nicole Leblanc Foundation.
