The archivesof Nicola L.
A conversation with Géraldine Gourbe
23 September 2026

Coinciding with the exhibition Nicola L.: When the Earth Turned the Other Way, currently on view at M HKA, Géraldine Gourbe will discuss the artist’s work and archives, and situate Nicola L.’s practice within broader histories of radical pedagogy, feminism, and experimental art.

Nicola L. (1932–2018) was a French artist whose practice challenged the boundaries between art, objects, and social relations. Born in Morocco and later active across Paris, Brussels, New York, and Ibiza, her nomadic life shaped a distinctly transnational and communal approach to artmaking. Throughout her practice, Nicola L. conceived art as a lived and social experience rather than a static object, anticipating later conversations around participation, relationality, and embodied spectatorship.

Géraldine Gourbe is a philosopher, author, art critic, curator, teacher, and researcher in aesthetics.
